“the best way to complain is to make things.”
-James Murphy
To me, design is the opposite of superfluous. It’s a powerful, direct engagement with the world. It’s seeing how things are, imagining what they could be, and setting to work to connect those dots and improve reality.
When I’m teaching, I love equipping my students with skills - and then watching them realize their own capacity to imagine and communicate a better world. In practice, I thrive on delivering for my clients while uncovering opportunities for additional benefit to them, the end users, and their communities.
It’s rigorous. It’s disciplined. And it’s a lot of work. But in the end, it’s a simple as making nice things that work well and enrich people’s lives. And I can’t think of any better way to spend one’s time.
